The education and training of health care professionals to ensure adequate access to care and long-term workforce sustainability is an integral part of St. Jude Global. Here’s a look at the educational programs and opportunities for health care professionals around the world.
A goal of St. Jude Global is to increase the number of specialists in low- and middle-income countries. Our clinical training programs are two- to three-year subspecialty apprenticeships at Alliance member institutions. These programs are modeled after St. Jude’s accredited fellowship programs and include bedside teaching, didactics, lectures and research. St. Jude works with partner institutions and physicians to develop these programs to best meet the needs of each region. The programs focus on pediatric hematology/oncology but also include an intensive care fellowship.
The Global Academy training seminars were created as short, certificate-based courses that systematically address gaps in the knowledge and skills of specialists who care for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.
The seminars provide a structured learning experience in key areas that are relevant across the globe. The courses’ delivery consists of either hands-on experience at St. Jude over a few weeks or blended (online and in-person) experiences. There are approximately four sessions each year, with sessions rotating through the various subspecialties and topics. Upon completion of these training seminars, participants receive a certificate of completion.
To date, St. Jude Global has provided training in the following subspecialties:
As the world and how we learn both evolve, new tools and technology are being applied to long-held best practices in learning. It is the mission of the Distance Learning Team to help our faculty, staff and partners make the most of these tools to produce high-quality learning experiences.
The results are a wide range of learning, professional development, and training products.
These products are designed by a team with expertise in instructional design, curriculum development and learning theory.
